The FUTURE

(2020/2021)

On the heels of the blockbuster, sold-out run of The Present, Guimarães once created The Future. The story took the audience on a personal journey including stops at a high-stakes poker game and a pub in the south of France, as it explores the seedy underbelly of the gambling world. Honesty was questioned along the way and the audience made decisions on how to move the narrative further, including how they felt the story should end.

Directed by Frank Marshall, The Future took the production level for an interactive show to a new level and defied what many people thought was possible or not in the digital space.

“To me, watching Guimarães is like watching Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance as Beth Harmon in the miniseries The Queen’s Gambit. He wins every time and always amazes his audience. Not only is Guimarães one of the best sleight-of-hand magicians, but he also is an engaging storyteller. Hopefully, in 2021 we will all be able to step inside The Geffen Playhouse and other theaters again until it’s safe, Guimarães gives us hope for The Future.”

— ON STAGE

“Each sleight of hand trick and carefully crafted coincidence contributes to the overall narrative, which is itself drawn from Guimarães' road to becoming a magician. More than once the thought "how'd he do that?" left me shaking my head. But the real magic is not in flashy delivery but in the way he lets his artistry impress all on its own. We know what we are seeing is the result of years and years of practice and invention yet Guimarães makes it look effortless. Therein lies the joy.”

— BROADWAY WORLD

“Guimarães has once again teamed up with Frank Marshall to bring what this critic finds to be the most exciting piece of virtual theatre born in this era of COVID-19. His magnetism and charm leaps through the computer screen and into houses all over the world as he excitedly pulls off trick after trick. I can confidently say Guimarães has the knack to bewilder even the most seasoned of tricksters.”
